By Philip Thon Aleu

September 26, 2009 (BOR) – Chief of the General Staff of Sudan People’s Liberation Army Gen. James Hoth Mai, with a colleague are due to launch coauthored book next month.

With a bolded cover title ‘Liberation struggle in South Sudan – critical issues for consideration’, the book is a collective research for masters dissertation of Gen. James Hoth and Gen Kuol Deng Abot in post conflict resolution with special focus on public administration.

Prof. Modimowabarwa Hendrick Kanyane from the University of Fort Hare, South Africa supervised the masters thesis for the duo generals, an introductory copy of the book handed to Sudan Tribune here by Majok Ayom Dor, a masters degree student from Fort Hare University reads in parts.

Prof. Kanyane assisted South Sudan military chiefs earning masters degrees with Gen James attaining his in May, 2009 – the time he was appointed as SPLA chief of staff. Major Gen. Kuol Deng also obtained a master degree in public administration in 2009.

Major Gen. Kuol Deng Abot delves in the role of traditional leadership in South Sudan since 1983 and has being a witness of all odds of wars till the time of Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005. Born in January, 1960 in Abyei town and being among the southern generations that witness horrors of unstable country like Sudan, his education was up-and-downs but managed to study and awarded school certificates, diplomas and finally a masters degree. Gen. Kuol Deng is currently the Director of South Sudan Security Bureau.

The research leading to this book also includes political reconciliation between Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army and Anyanya 2 which the authors refer to as “A negotiation tool for national reconciliation and peace in post war Southern Sudan.”

As a foundation for peace building in South Sudan, the book also considered roles played by traditional leaders in the liberation from 1983—2004.

“The book takes readers into the heart of how the people of south Sudan at all levels managed to sustain one of the world longest civil wars and war of liberation in Africa,” the back cover reads.

    Thanks Mr. reporter
We do value the research done by the chief of staff M.G.Hoth Mai and colleagues.
Ladies and gentlement people do good things because they get reward and appreciation, we must appreciate any piece of effort done by individuals.

Researching the phases of the movement and hardship endured by daughters and sons of South Sudan is not an ugly job, it is such an interesting job in which the valuable south Sudan citizen can really engage in.

I appreciated the job done by SPLA masters students who have undertaken research about the long history of our country.
I also urge all the South Sudan intellectuals to work hand in hand to appreciate the cause of the movement, we had been long way to look for peace and start life as a nation, South Sudan had never have chance to look after his citizens, now that is the only time we have got.

Please let focus on peace, reconciliation and harmony. We sufered a lots for so many years, our children, women and disables had been in hard time for so many decades, please let us recognise our being one person and stop hatred against one another.
    South Sudan will prevail,
    May God bless South Sudan

This is what southern sudanese want to read not killing.James Hoth has been a strong man fighting for the right course.when he was appointed as General chief of Staff, some thugs from Lou Nuer complaints as why he was appointed.Dinka want to used him aganist them, hahah.the fact that he is from Jikany,Lou Nuer know very well that during the war when they surender to sudan Army.the used to attack Jikany, because Jikany were committed to SPLA/M.While criminal Lou Nuer were busy recieving guns from jellaba to killl their brother and sister in the south sudan.they feel any time Jikany will revenge any time soon.but this is not the case, Jikany are civilise people and they have already forgive these thugs Lou nuer.otherwise if only they restart the past criminal behaviors.Jikany will teach them a lesson.

Congratulation to both the Chief of Staff, Gen. James Hoth Mai and Gen. Kuol Deng Abot on their academic achievements. It is a great achievement for south sudan. Books are always well researched, avoid enforced redundances and never politicize. This promises interesting dailogue. It defends on its contents.

    Dear Philip Thon Aleu,

Thanks for the news, I however read the comments of brothers and sisters but I would want differ from all.

My concerns goes the the foreign academician who are helping our generals to up the ladder of academic. These generals need to be guided on the link of what they are studying to their current role. I called it CAREER ABORTION when a person leave the work that he/she has been doing for more than a decade and jump into a new career for the sake of publicity.
Why can’t our generals focus their studies in latest or modern military operation, forensic military investigation, military science, military strategies, Military alliance, modern infant weaponry, Military administration, Military Economics, Military Finance, Counter terrorism, Air force operation/, Civil defense, strategic operation, Military Counseling, Moral boosting, Nuclear weapon /detection. Counter arms smuggling, Military infiltration, National security, internal security Criminal investigations (CID) etc, and Special Forces development. ETC

IT IS NOT SURPRISING WHY INSECURITY IN SOUTH SUDAN WILL NEVER END AND WHY WE CONTINUE TO HAVE POORLY EQUIP ARMY AND HALF MILITARY AND CIVILIAN OFFICERS.

SINCE ONE CAN NOT BE CIVIL ACADEMICIAN AND MILITARY GENERAL AT THE SAME TIME, I THINK IT IS TIME FOR OUR PARLIAMENT TO START DRAFTING BILLS ON WHAT MILITARY QUALIFICATIONS IS REQUIRED FOR ONE TO BE COME A BRIGADIER, MAJOR GENERAL, GENERAL AND CHIEF OF GENERAL STAFF.

This is my thought but I do welcome constructive critisms and insight concurrence

    Thank you
