Sudan 2nd VP Taha warned Bashir over plane interception by Israel: report

November 8, 2009 (WASHINGTON) – The Sudanese 2nd Vice president Ali Osman Taha warned his boss Omer Hassan Al-Bashir not to travel to Turkey to attend the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in Istanbul, according to a news report.

The BBC Arabic service quoting Sudanese sources in Istanbul said that Bashir listened to Taha’s advice telling him that Israeli and Greek fighter jets may intercept his plane en route to Turkey. They pointed out that Greece has made a pledge to the EU to arrest Bashir.

The report said that Sudanese presidential jet landed in Istanbul without Bashir on board.

Bashir was due to arrive in Turkey on Sunday afternoon according to Sudanese media. Sources in Khartoum told Sudan Tribune that the government “is trying to keep it [Bashir’s visit] quiet” in case Turkey comes under pressure to backtrack on the invitation causing a last minute cancellation and an “embarrassment”.

Turkish officials confirmed that Bashir will not attend earlier today without giving details.

Sudan official news agency (SUNA) said that Bashir “delayed” his visit to Turkey in light of the ongoing dispute with SPLM over crucial parts of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).

The Sudanese head of state’s anticipated arrival in Turkey has generated controversy and criticisms from human rights groups and the European Union (EU) which privately urged the NATO member to consider the invitation it extended.

Turkey rebuffed the objections saying it is only a host of the OIC conference while saying that a bilateral visit by Bashir, who faces an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for his alleged role in Darfur atrocities, in the future “is out of question”.

International Crisis Group analyst Fouad Hikmat said the decision showed how much the ICC warrant had hindered Bashir’s movements.

“I don’t think he’ll be able to venture out beyond the immediate neighbourhood, or maybe the Gulf. His people don’t want to take any risks. Once he’s in international airspace, he is in no man’s land,” he told Reuters.

Presdent Beshir shouldnot give lame excuse but he has to be frank to Turkey Government, It is obvious that his jet plane will not land safely without being intercepted by Israel. Taha had save his immediate appearance in ICC.

    Well, Well El akh Elkafaaf,

I do not blame you Bashiir, You should be scared of your own shadow, specially when it involves these Yahood. You should have taught of these consequences when you butchered the other Sudanese including the Durfurians while dancing to your fake rhythms of “Ana Sudaani”. Being kept in the backyard from the public in “el kaluwaa” is neither a Sudanese tradition, or, a quality of a true leader.

May the all mighty god give you a courage to face your own destiny at the Hague as opposed to living the life of haunted coward!!!!!

    Asalaam Aleikum,

    Mohammad.

    Hi guys

The best way to live in peace in this world is when you give whole your heart to God, follow ten commandments, that prohibit you from killing innocent people, stealing, etc. What Omar Bashier and his team were doing was just like what Saddam Hussien was doing and what criminal Nidal has just done to the innocent American soldiers in Texas.

Let people value live and the world will value their lives too, otherwise fear will be their daily blacket as it happen to Bashier now.

If Muslims really believe in God, then they need to love the children of God.

    God bless

I love ICC; it is the best tool available for those who are the victims of terror. War criminals must be kept on the run until they run out of energy. I am certain that Bashir and Joseph Kony will account for their crimes against the people of Sudan and Uganda before the ICC in The Hague.

    To all readers,

There is a brewing all time corruption in the ministry of finance on house rent allowance for this year.

GOSS under Kiir leadership should understand that this is elections’ year. Six months from now are too soon. It has to do every thing to motivate people to register and vote for them. People are confused about the SPLM’s contradicting statements of boycotting elections and not nominating its candidates. Citizens are also fed up of the failure by the government to deliver.

Look, I watched it on SSTV, heard it on radio and read it in newspapers a few months ago that the government resolved to pay house rent allowances to the civil servants beginning from January this year. Up to now nothing has materialized. Is this a joking government or what? How come a government makes a decision it cannot implement? Giving false hopes to citizens is dangerous and can backfire at the government. May be the money is there but those official thieves in the finance ministry want to delay the payment until accounts are closed by the end of the year and they eat the money for this year’s house rent allowance. Is this a behaviour of a government that goes for elections really?

I hope Kiir will give some incentives to the government staff during this long holiday, otherwise people will just sit down, playing dominoes and cards and not bother to register to vote for a joking government.

Good to remember that, there is no another origin where Quran come from, Quran is just part of Bible accept few verses because Christianity was and is the first religion since there was no Islam 2000 years ago when those of Herod and Pilate rule Isreal in ancent days.

I think you have never came across Quran, and if so, I got to inform you that there are ten commandments in Quran. But some Islamic redicales ignored those rules simply to protect Islam whom they view it as volunarable to the criticism across the world since “Islam” which we can translate in english as “surrender” don’t have strong root that can support its perfection and true devinity.

But there are ten commandments in Quran to remind you.

    I hope you got it.

    God bless
