SPLM Political Bureau discusses latest political developments in Sudan

By James Gatdet Dak

November 11, 2009 (JUBA) – The highest organ of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), the Political Bureau, holds a meeting in Juba beginning on Thursday to discuss the latest political developments in the country.

In a press statement shortly after his arrival from Khartoum on Wednesday, the party’s Secretary General, Pagan Amum Okech, said the party’s Chairperson, Salva Kiir Mayardit has called for the meeting.

Amum said the CPA was at a critical stage, but assured that the SPLM was ready for the elections.

The meeting, he explained, would dwell on a number of issues associated with the upcoming elections, contentious census results, referendum for the South and Abyei as well as respective popular consultations for Nuba Mountains and Southern Blue Nile.

Amum said there was danger of the South losing one-thirds representation in the national parliament if the 2008 census results, which he described as “fake,” were to be applied in redistribution of power sharing in the National Assembly.

“…According to the use of census results where Southern Sudan loses nearly one-third of its seats because of the fake census results; losing 54 out of 150, and the South will be remaining with only 96 seats,” he said.

He urged potential voters to turnout for voter registration to vote for the right leaders.

    Dear brothers & sisters,

People have to tell Pagan & the SPLM leadership that the years of brutality, racism and injustice that south sudanese and the other marginalised Sudanese experienced under successive regimes in khartoum has to end in independence of south sudan comes 2011. There is awakening among south sudanese public minds except the current SPLM leadership. This injustice from the center(khartoum) has created perfect smoke screen to demand our independence. Sudan is one of the racist place in this earth.

Let the north goes with its perfect way of islamic life, otherwise sudan will be in the state of turmoil and strife for another 50 years if unity is forced by minority unionist clique. Pagan Amum needs to tell the truth!! Given a broader perspective, unity of sudan is not an attractive option in any sane person’s mind. Please get out of the way of pride of south sudanese. People without a knowledge of their past are like trees without roots!! let’s the south go NOOOW!!!

“Amum said the CPA was at a critical stage, but assured that the SPLM was ready for the elections.”

I cannot compherend this statement quoted above because of the tense used by the reporter.

So, CPA was in a critical stage and now is in a stable condition, is this what the reporter meant?

The same thing with “but assured that the SPLM was ready for the elections.” Does Amum means that SPLM has pull out from elections or what?

A primative person like myself as stated by Intellectualised Gatwech would not understand such statement, so I need someone to help me with James Gadet’s English.

Anyway that statement to me, implied that SPLM in this Political Bureau meeting may be discussing “Boycotting Elections, and asking SSLA for UDI of South Sudan.”

But if my anticipation is true, then what elections does SPLM wants to boycott? Federal ones, or altogether with Southern Sudan presidential (Electing the President of GOSS) and Parliamentarian ones?

    Dear readers,

SPLM has been holding fruitless politburo meetings several times. They always skip the issue of nominating candidates. I hope this time it should be the priority in this meeting. Otherwise the Sudanese people will see it as a joking political party. The world will not take it serious. How come we are left with few months and the so-called challenger of NCP does not know who their candidates are. This is one of the reasons why people are reluctant to register because they see SPLM not ready for elections. They should this time tell to the people of Sudan and the world who their candidates are.

As for Pagan Amum, this communist boy produced in Cuba, is always looking for crisis. He thinks it is that easy to create a crisis and run to his mansion in Denver, Calorado, USA. He was hiding in Egypt during the war and has not tasted the real bitter part of it.

    Dear Mohammed Ali

You are right that the census in south sudan was conducted by southerner, but there is something that you forgot to mansion, dear readres as you all know that the datas or the details of census was written by pencil and not by pen because it (pen) was not aloud to use. and the reason the way I sow it, was to make it easy for them to change the census result.

By the way friend is only SPLM or southerners who are refusing the census result, darfurian and other northern parties are rejecting too.
