Sudanese vice-president briefs cabinet on peace talks

KHARTOUM, April 18, 2004 (SUNA) — First vice-president and chairman of the government’s delegation to the peace negotiations in Naivasha, Kenya, Ali Uthman Muhammad Taha, Sunday presented a detailed report to the council of ministers on the progress of the negotiations and the extent they reached on the issues of sharing of power and the three areas and the advanced stages they realized besides the government party’s practical proposals to reach a common ground on the issues of difference.

A joint technical committee from the two parties was set up to bring view points closer together and to formulate a preliminary draft agreement to be submitted to the leaderships of the two parties.

The council of ministers approved the report of the first vice-president and praised the efforts of the government’s delegation.

The first vice-president will undertake during his stay in Khartoum consultations with the various Sudanese political forces before returning back to Naivasha.
