CPA festival rocks Yambio Town

January 17, 2010 (YAMBIO) -– The 5th anniversary of Comprehensive Agreement (CPA) celebration has kicked off in Yambio amid colorful ceremony that culminated with parades led by the Southern Sudan Police Band and various traditional dancers and sportsmen and women from the 10 states of Southern Sudan.

The event together with the New Stadium was officially declared open by the Minister for Cabinet Affair -GoSS Dr. Luka Manoja who congratulated the Government of WES for the tremendous effort they (officials) have exerted in two months period to make the fifth CPA celebration a reality.

Manoja explained that, “many young people were born during the war and have never experienced peace; He said [we] should remember and thank all those who scarified to bring the people of south Sudan peace that [we] enjoy today.

He encouraged the youth to express their talents and experiences in the next countdown days efficiently.

“While competing amongst your selves make friendship and by doing so south Sudan shall consider Unity of southern Sudan” said Manoja.

The Cabinet Minister concluded by saying

“The stick I am holding now is one but contains many colours, why not you young people, Liberty is our goal ,United we stand, divided we fall, we all want to stand high”

The Acting Governor and minister for Information and communications WES, Col Joseph Ngere on his part recognized the military effort contribution by Southern Sudan Army and the local community cooperation in combating the LRA which was a threat to WES and Southern Sudan as well.

The first day of the CPA celebration ended with a football tournament between WES girls VS WES Bahr-el Ghazal which ended in a One Goal to Nil in favour of WES.

It should be noted that the New Stadium has not yet been baptized with a new name. However the name according to a reliable source is in the
Meanwhile the Bahr-el ghazal Vs Eastern Equatoria held at Yambio Freedom ground the center of Yambio town ended in a draw of 3-3.

Yambio Town of the semi-autonomous region and State Capital of Western Equatoria.

Yambio is one of the most beautiful parts of southern Sudan – the biggest town in Western Equatoria, surrounded by lush green rainforest and fertile farmlands the traditional trade routes with neighbouring DR Congo have also been overwhelmed by IDPs from the villages and Congolese.

Though the festival is well under and run through 19th January 2009, but much of the excitement was overshadowed by incompletion of some projects designated to for the multimillion event.

The celebration was pushed to 19th January, as a consequent of shortcoming in finishing some projects.

    This is the day that we should highly remember our hero Dr John Garang de Mabior for the greatest effort he did to people of Southern Sudan.

    Sorry for ur Garang but Why do you people cry all the time with Garang and how many people died and better than Garang instead Garang created hate within Southerner’s. Who care keep cry but some people don’t care be’s we see many dead.
