SPLM vows not to withdraw its presidential candidate
February 1, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has reiterated its previous position stressing that it has no intention to withdraw its candidate from the presidential race.
The ruling National Congress party (NCP) had reacted with concern to the nomination of SPLM deputy SG Yasir Arman as the party’s runner against their incumbent leader, President Omer Hassan Al-Bashir. The NCP leadership called on the SPLM to consider withdrawing its official nominee after making the move and backing the candidacy of Salva Kiir for South Sudan’s presidency.
The NCP also suggested that they would accept further dialogue on disputed census results to increase parliamentary seats allocated to the SPLM in the national Assembly to 30%.
But Pagan Amum, the Secretary General of the SPLM today said that his party has no political arrangements or any intention to compromise with the NCP)on the selection of their candidates for all positions including for the presidential chair.
SPLM has already selected its candidates for various positions and submitted their applications to the National Election Commission (NEC) office.
“We do not see reasons to withdraw our selected candidates,” he added.
He further affirmed SPLM’s commitment and determination to changing the face of war-ravaged country through selection of shining candidates to capture central power.
“We in the SPLM fully support comrade Yasir Arman’s nomination for Presidency of the republic,” he said.
The official was also quick to accuse the NCP of having been behind the nomination of SPLM-DC Chairman Lam Akol for the presidency of the Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS).
“They [NCP] are playing double cards,” said the party official. “They are busy supporting the candidacy of Lam while coming out to fool the public that they are supporting candidacy of comrade Salva Kiir for Southern Sudan Presidency. This is double standard.”
“They are trying here and there through proposition of several candidates to contest against SPLM in the South but chances of their success would be next to impossibility,” he added.
Last week one observer with close links to SPLM told Sudan Tribune that he finds it “bewildering” that neither Salva Kiir nor his deputy Riek Machar has made any statements in support of Arman in face of NCP pressure.
“This clearly indicates that they may be open to a compromise with the NCP on the issue of presidential elections. There are millions of votes at stake here and the SPLM leadership may want to use this as leverage against the NCP” the observer who asked not to be named said.
“The separatist faction the SPLM will surely back going into this direction,” he added.

No, no and no to withdrawal of Yasir Arman from presidential race. If SPLM does that, it will be a grave mistake. Increase the national seat for South Sudan or not, let us face it.
NCP is playing the usual game, let them face it and we have to vote twice in this coming presidential election.
Long live SPLM, Long live Arman-change is coming to Sudan.

Very Very Very Excellent to the SPLM Party of None Greedy-Powers!!!
The SPLM argument for remaining and stick to the decision made on the proposed presidential candidates to the April Election in Sudan is universally appreciated beyond no-doubt by the Southerners and other Sudanese people around the World. That is wise enough, with the effective and efficiency reasons.
That is truly, the SPLM leaders and/or leadership are keeping eye on all the deceptive tricks from the cruel party of assassinators known as NCP. The NCP has lots of reasons to loss the elections such as, Sudan at this time does not qualify to be led by the criminal whom is awaited by ICC charge on war-crimes, the sitting-duck leader whom his vision aims to swallow the national funds instead for developing the nation, we need some one who can stop the mass-killing in Darfur and who shall be able to foresee the future betterment of the Sudan within the period and upto the referendum.
That is bring us back to review the blessed statement made by Mr. Yasir Armon (SPLM Presidential Candidate) last month that his stepping-in shall be similar to Mr. Obama (President of America).
We say ‘welcome’ to Mr. Yasir Armon to be the Sudanese president and ‘No’ to Bashir chronic criminal.
Thank all by Kuer Dau Apai

What crazy people!!
Does it really matter to you if Arman win or not? is that going to prevent southerners from declaring their dream state under the wisdom and leadership of Dinka?
SPLM should candidate a “JUNOBEI” instead of Modokoro .. it is just the same coin that has two faces!
South should concentrate on building the infrastructure in the south, buil a modern state that based on democracy and freedom and fighting corruption (Dinka), more importantly, how to allocate those JUNOBEAN who live in the north to south, how to move them to the south because Sudan (north) is no longer their country after they choose voluntarily to separate .. good luck brothers JUNOBEAN!

SPLM vows not to withdraw its presidential candidate
Dear bros, voters and presidential candidates from all over the southern Sudan.
I am here advice u n requested u not 2 give up any more so please cool-down n play your polices.I could say that there is no need for us 2 withdraw the right person/candidate from his presidential, second 2 that am here 2 insure u that be attention of that man called Yasir Arman by name ! .I think Yasir he is related to Arab by blood, his mind n naming of cultural ways weather he is a Nubian or he had been within S P L A/S P L M for many years u must 2 know that politic must to been plan before 50 to 100 years come then person may do what he plan to do and that is the ways Arab majority of politicians of them live in this world do, so don,t consider him full as i seen from u supporters, so please bros let vote n support him but be aware of that background of him and of those people [Arab].My question is why r u not support Kiir to let him stand for coming election?.
and thank u

There is change in the horizon, the type of change that will change the sudan forever and the sudan will not be the same again because the SPLM is seen as the party that has the marginalized people of sudan in mind from Nimule to Portsudan and Kasala to Nyala.
The Sudan as a nation is not a property to a given few who want to cling to power and create development only in the centre. The SPLM will bring real change by taking cities to the people and not the people to the cities, taking schools to the people and not people to the school. I used to travel to Wau from Torit for 3-4 days to go to Vocational Technical School because there was non close to me,but this time around things will change for the better as the SPLM is the people,s party and will do just that for the people.
I am confident that the SPLM candidate comrade Yasir Arman is so popular in the whole country that the NCP see him as a threat to their party. It is time for Bashir to go home, leaders come and go and the wind for change is blowing across the country. SPLM OYEEE! Arman for President OYEE! New SUdan OYEE!

Yasir could have won this election in one case, if the SPLM was following Garangs vision of unified country and was credibly backed up by an SPLM working for that vision, ironically, SPLM made seccion so attractive not only in the south but also in the north where many people changed hearts now and are looking forward for this divorce (some even say that sudan can only now truley be unified after letting the south go).
However, Arman will still be a headache for NCP and he will get the vote of two groups of people, the 1st are the southerns and the 2nd are the northners who are intersted in Arman as a person (hoping that he will detatch from SPLM after the south quits the union).
Arman will probably get most if not all of the south votes and this will be a sizable portion of the total regestired voters and the remaing north vote will be divded between NCP and the other traditional parties. It is also worth mentioning the SPLM needs a cooperative north after separation regardless of it being NCP or any other party (offcourse Arman for them will be perfect but unlikely), other wise they will be in deep trouble because of the oil has to be exported through the north at least for the next three to five years.

Dear people of south,
Complacence is not an option … wake up people … Watch out, if Mr. Yasir Arman win the election … the Arabs will get rid of him by any means. The Arabs are not going to let the south go that easy …. So, don’t celebrate too much… Many of your highly educated are targets .. mark my word …. The Arabs are going to kill many of your leaders …. they had done in the pass….check your history ..

Withdrawing Mr. Arman would mean inconsistency, something that has never been the part of character of SPLM/A since its inception in 1983.
