September 8, 2010 (RUMBEK) – The Southern Sudan Employees Justice Chamber (SSEJC) has announced that it has discovered a great deal of injustice is being perpetrated against employees of ministries taking place in Lake State.

Speaking from Rumbek, the state capital, Joseph Akot Mabor, Director of Employees Justice and Chamber Affairs revealed that seven injustice cases were presented to the body by employees who were unfairly dismissed by their respective ministries. Four cases have been resolved, he said, and the dismissed employees were reinstated in various ministries, while three cases are still pending.

Akot said that the ministers responsible for downsizing last year did not use the agreed methods because of nepotism by top government officials who held ministerial positions with the aim of employing their relatives in their respective ministries.

Akot said “those staffs laid off and a few staffs dismissed in their respective ministries were doing fair manner [good job] to their employers, but nepotism overwhelmed ministers.” He called upon the government and public to present their grievances to the employees’ justice chamber rather than taking law into their own hands.

The Chamber Director in the state affirmed that the mission of the chamber is to transform civil service relations and maintain a conducive working environment where justice, equality and fairness prevail.

“Our mission is to investigate and determine the grievances of the civil service employees, lobby and advocate for their rights to ensure justice, equality and fairness at the workplace is respected by both employer and employees,” he said.

The region last week established its first Workers Trade Union, in order to promote and advocate for the welfare of employees and traders in all the ten states of Southern Sudan. Thousands of employees in the region are believed to have been victims of unfair treatment by their employees leading to their unjust dismissals.

There should be a similar parliamentarian mechanism to tackle the issue of nepotism in the Lake State. There are five ministers from a certain village and belong to the same clan of Gov.Shaul Tong beside numbers of counties’ commissioners.

The future of the new SouthSudan Republic is in jeopardy of such unfairness and injustice systematic polices of our corrupted GOSS-Officeholders.

That’s not good to mistreat other ordinary citizens unfairly. Every citizens of Southern Sudan should have an equal opportunities regardless of their personal backgrounds, gender and religion. In fact, We fought arabs for the same reason and if our government don’t treat us fairly then we have to fight our right from the government.

If there is a state among the ten states in South Sudan where education is abused, it is Lakes State.
This is a state of possibilities, corruptions, nepotism, injustice among others. If you have nursery certificate, leave only secondary certificate or diploma in any fields, just to show that you know A B C D, it is hard to get a job but if you have never seen a blackboard in your life, you may get a position of being Director, D/Director, senior inspector in any ministry. I regret when usually seen my colleagues moving from ministry to ministry with envelops in their hands pack of all documents that they deserved to get jobs but all vain. You can read questions on every job seeker’s face that, was it a mistake to go to school?
