African Union mission arrives to western Sudan

KHARTOUM, May 10, 2004 (SUNA) — A mission of the African Union (AU) for monitoring the cease-fire in Darfur arrived in Al-Fashir, capital of North Darfur State, Sunday, headed by the chairman of conflicts resolution department at the AU.

The AU mission was received upon arrival at Al-Fashir Airport by Wali (governor) of North Darfur State Osman Mohammed Yousif Kobur and members of his government.

The delegation held a meeting with the government of the state, explaining that the visit of the mission aims to make the necessary arrangements for establishment of a commission for monitoring the cease-fire in Darfur states in implementation of the agreement signed recently in Ndjamena between the government and arms holders in Darfur.

The governor of the state, on his part, affirmed his government’s readiness for cooperation for accomplishment of the task for realizing security and stability for the people of the state.
