Unity State governor returns after visiting Kenya and China

By Bonifacio Taban Kuich

October 6, 2010 (BENTIU) – The State governor of oil-rich Unity State, Lieutenant General Taban Deng Gai, returned to state capital Bentiu after a two week visited to Kenya and China.

Gai first visited to Kenya to meet with Unity State students studying in the Kenyan capital Nairobi. He urged the students and those who fled to Kenya during the violence that followed April’s general election to return to south Sudan.

The governor also visited Juba to meet the 1st Vice President of Sudan and the President of the Government of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit who promoted Gai to the rank of lieutenant general due to his hard work in forming SPLA strategies.

After visiting Nairobi Gai headed to the Chinese capital Beijing to further the relationship with South Sudan to prepare for the eventuality that the semi-autonomous region votes for independence to in a referendum due for 9 January 2011.

South Sudan’s Vice president of the Government of Southern Sudan, Riek Machar Teny, was also in Kenya to spread awareness to youth and students in Unity State about the Southern referendum.

Gai told Sudan Tribune on Tuesday that he promises all Unity State students will be supported by the state government in their academic studies abroad.

it’s good that governer Gai urged his State’s students to study hard and promised support to those studying beyond the borders..but the Governer must not forget the big number of university graduates waiting for employment in his state, for they are the only tools that will help Mr.Governer to achieve his planned projects..besides, some served graduates are waiting to be granted post graduate scholarships so that when they are back to service they will make prominent change in their respective work stations..the financial capability of Unity State is not so bad to send some 20 postgraduate students every two years in different specializations ,lieutenant General Gai ,your adminstration will never regret the step because development does not always means constructing roads and building bridges while ignoring the most important part of it which is human development. please just try it.

    Dear readers,

Did Selfish Kuol Manyang read this article? I wish his aid to print this and let him (Kuol) read it to see how the important of the liberation is to the young generation like the students who are likely to be the future leaders and the backbone of the movement.

Kuol want his children to learn only but denying others the right to education. He has removed the support for students who are studying in and out side Sudan, even those who went on Government scholarship, because he knows that these student are just from poor war veterans who got nothing to support their children to the level of university, in doing that his children are now in USA using government fund and he has grabbed more land for them in Bor town.

South Sudan is under one central government (GOSS) and Unity state is not exceptional, where is the money for supporting higher education in Jonglei state? if Mr. Manyang do read this let him answer this question.

All students from Jonglei state are suffering every where in the universities and colleges, I personally witness it in Rumbek University where I got the dean of University complaining about Jonglei state Government not supporting their students.

He is misusing his powers and he too is abusing the office of governor. I urge the people of Jonglei state to raise and say no to oppression, we have suffered enough at the hand of Arab and we do not want the black man to repeat what Arab did to us.

We say no no no and a big no to oppression and corruption in Jonglei state.

First of all welcome back home Lieutenant General after your fruitful journey to China & Kenya.
L.General there is a relationship between people’s rights and needs and how these are met, and in China I believe that people rights and needs become the top priority in the whole system, because it is not possible to promote development and make everybody participants and benefactors of development without considering people’s rights and needs.Hopefully your visit to China will make a great change in Unity State,God bless.
