Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan says alarmed by limited access in Darfur
October 17, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — Limited access to some parts of Jebel Marra hampers the humanitarian efforts to reach the needy in the mountainous area in Darfur.
Sudanese army intensified attacks on eastern Jebel Marra locations which are under the control of the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement Army led by Abdel Wahid Al-Nur.
The air and ground attacks displaced thousands of civilians from their villages. But the peacekeeping force and the aid groups are denied by the Sudanese army from entering the area which is declared military operations zone.
“The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Mr. Georg Charpentier, is concerned by limitations on humanitarian access in view of intensified fighting in parts of Eastern Jebel Marra in Darfur,” said a statement released this week.
Charpentier nonetheless welcomed recent access by WHO and UNICEF to some parts of Eastern Jebel Marra, urging parties “to the conflict to facilitate humanitarian access on a regular basis”.
He also added he notes recent pledges from the Sudanese officials to enlarge access and to allow for coverage of the national immunization campaign that started on October 14.
The rebel SLM several times accused the Sudanese army and government militias, several times in the past, but the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) used to deny such attacks.
However on October 7, SAF spokesperson Al-Sawarmi Khaled said the army defeated SLM rebels in Jebel Marra announcing the opening of the traffic between Katour, Darban, Jawa and Souni which are now under the control of government troops.

Has the grim shadow of Iraq and fallout from the crisis in Lebanon, paralyzed the Western democracies in responding to a terrible genocide by attrition a among Africa tribes of Darfur? If the International Community wants to end the current humanitarian blockage and genocide in Darfur, must first deploy a meaningful International military force to protect civilians and exert immediate, concerted and substantial pressure on Khartoum to allow unfettered humanitarian access to those areas, but it seems that the brilliant ideal of “responsibility to protect” is collapsing as the world is watching the ongoing genocide in Darfur unabated. The International Community has counted on condoning the attacks and killing of innocent civilians at the expense of secession of South Sudan peacefully; but their prophesy proved wrong as the regime is issuing war threats and taking the Country back to square one than to let the South go; I hope the International Community will respond positively to the ongoing genocide in Darfur.

The roadmap for South Sudan independent is clear now please its time to return attention on Darfur. People are eating leaves of trees in Eastern Jabal Marra and Tebera. This was plan B of gencide regime in Khartoum to let people of Darfur die from hunger.
However; the regime will never allow humaniterain access good;only force will avail with this regime other the International Community should strengthen Darfurian freedom fighter to defend their families. I think such looks wise instead of condemning and appealling.
