Sudan maintains low ranking on global corruption index despite marginal improvement
October 27, 2010 (WASHINGTON) – Sudan remains one of the planets most corrupt nations according to the Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index for 2010 released on Tuesday.
Sudan moved up in ranking from 176 last year to 172, with its corruption perceptions index (CPI) increasing from 1.5 to 1.6 in the 178-nation index, which is based on independent surveys on corruption.
The east African nation moved ahead of Iraq, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
The only other countries with worse ranking in the index are Somalia, Myanmar and Afghanistan.
Sudan remained one place behind its neighbor Chad.
Sudanese officials including president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir routinely dismiss any talk of widespread corruption in the country despite a public perception to the contrary.
Last year, the Sudanese state minister at the cabinet Kamal Abdel-Latif was quoted by local media as saying that Sudan is one of the best countries globally in the area of governmental financial transparency.
This week, the government’s inspector general reported that many agencies have refused to be audited or give access to their records.
The report stated that embezzlement and improper financial transactions increased from 10.5 million Sudanese pounds ($5.3 million) to 16.6 million ($8.3 million) in 2010.

Transparency International need to focus and watch both regions (North and South), with some recommendation actions on how governments in both regions are embedding the culture of corruption in governing systems.
More reports should be publish quarterly to remind both regions that they are under the watch of international community.

Whether South or Northern Sudan, corruption is the foundation of their leadership. Indeed, Southern Sudan government is worse of all otherwise without minimizing their corruption status. Southern sudan will not going to achieved its golden goals next year because many people will be bribe by their partners especially northerners to vote for unity which is griscated to Southerners right

Embezzlement, Abuse of power, Inducement, Nepotism etc is increasing in Southern Sudan that means the Rule of Law is decrease or is not even there, like what happen to the former minister of finance in Southern Sudan when it happen to be interogated the other sympathizers released him out in the jail by force.
