President Kiir forms constitutional review committee

January 22, 2011 (JUBA) – The President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, on Friday issued a Presidential decree forming a Constitutional Review Committee, chaired by the minister of Legal Affairs and Constitutional Development, John Luk Jok, to review the current constitution of Southern Sudan as the region moves to statehood.

Initial results from south Sudan’s referendum on independence show that the south is likely to secede in July this year. The referendum is part of a 2005 peace between north and south.

Though the terms of reference for the committee is not yet revealed to the press, the 24-person committee’s activity is believed to be part of implementation of the resolutions and recommendations of the Southern Sudan political parties conference, which brought together almost all of parties in the south.

The conference was called by Kiir in an attempt to unite the south politically ahead of the referendum.

One of the main resolutions of the conference, as well as fresh elections after independence, called for a constitutional conference after the referendum.

The ruling party in the South, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and all the southern opposition political parties agreed on a roadmap in October 2010 to guide the region for future governance after the referendum.

It’s time to limit the governing by decree of the president with the exceptions only in the extraordinarily circumstances like in war or natural disaster whereby a president can exercises such power. It’s time to give new elected legislature powers so that they could enact legislation based on what people wants not on president’s desires. and I would like all the appointed officials to through rigorous confirmation process, the same process here in the United States where the senate confirm or rejects the nominee of the president based on his/her qualification among other things. Moreover, It is also time to confirm top military officials from Brigadier to General who are promoted by the president and then would be go through the same process through our elected legislature body as well.
Finally, I would like to see all parties included on this constitutional review process, and may be abolished or amend or even do away with the current interim constitution altogether and start with the clean slate. And afterward put the final document up for referendum so that it could be ratifies by all citizens in all Southern states. A document we could finally call, a people’s constitution.
Just abolished the current government and have the transitional government for a period of Four to three months starting July 10. No more one, two or three years transitional period…We had enough of six years interim.. Immediate elections for all the post includes the presidency and county commissioners too, after the end of the above stated transitional period will be the only solution to get us out of the mess we find ourselves at the moment.

To all our fallen heroes & heroines would be proud if we did.!!!!!! God bless people of South Sudan.

Hey guys stop going back and forth praising Dr. Riek as if he’s a hero, he must be a hero if we infact happened to label those who had committed crimes amd attrocites as heroes. Let him just work peacefully such that to relief himself from his past mischief in case to get recognized and be forgiven. And so, even if we for give him, the perishable-number of (victims) the civilians he has killed won’t forgive.

So let him do his job as our beloved vice president without appraising his well did at this critical movement of hardships because he might go crazy and blow it up, i mean the anticipated secession of our beloved awaiting nation, thinking that what he does is always the best…..and comparision to few individuals whom are still babbling and clinging to the so-called (1991)as if it was a perfect uprise, but not knowing that it was delusional for having taken thousands of southerners lives from both nuers and dinkas instead of using that force toward our common eneny.

Matter of fact, the verity vision to claims is Dr john Garang’s vision since his vision was such a clear and pure and far from any evil associate, because his aim was to liberate and free all the marginazed people from every corner of sudan and after he failed achieving it when his party (spla) was weakened by the nasir faction (ssim) who deserted the (spla) and joined the khartoum goverment to fight against the (spla) when it was almost at the point of capturing Juba.

In that case, Dr. John shifted to his plan “B” of which brought us the (CPA) that he signed in 2005, i will attributed to him and so do every hardcore (spla) members since the inception of it to the present, not talk of deserters.

Finally, i will remind you one of his quotations: he said, when you are asking for something, start with something greater or the entire thing and you will eventually end up getting half of its share, and if you start it with something smaller then you will automatically end up getting nothing at all—-this remind me of his new sudan vision he was aiming at and since he went unsuccesful on that, he ends up getting a portion of the whole sudan through (cpa) on which he reiterated that, if you want to vote for unity and be a second class citizen then it’s your choice. So where the hell is Riek vision from here, stop visualizing criminal vision as visionary, tired those hoodwinkers!.
