By Manyang Mayom

March 3, 2011 (RUMBEK) – The Lakes state minister of finance, Pur Chiengan Dakbai, has said that the 2011 budget is planned to execute the promises the government made during the Sudan general election campaign of April 2010.

On Tuesday Dakbai presented to the Lakes state parliamentarians a budget worth SGD 151,842,734 ($55,824,533.97).

The minister was addressing the press at his office on Wednesday, one day after he presented the 2011 budget to Lakes State Legislative Assembly.

The budget is being reviewed by a special committee of economic development and finance in Lakes state parliament desk under chairmanship of Madhieu Makuac Adhil.

He stated that the new budget has been made to meet the needs of Lakes state communities, citing the provision of water and health services among the priorities the budget has considered.

Dakbai said that “the budget for security still remains the highest, followed by education which will have teachers’ salaries paid in full and 300 more teachers to be recruited in 2011 budget”.

He noted that the government of Lakes state is still using last years budget, explaining that this is what the law stipulates.

He however promised to give arrears to civil servants after the new budget is adopted, adding that this will include operational costs and individuals who have been promoted.

The committee reviewing Lakes state budget is expected to report its finding to the State Legislative Assembly around mid March.

    I have two big questions here;

    One,You said the security budget remains the highest in the budget but do you think this will reduce the high rate of crime in the state? You should rather train your illiterate Honorable MPs and local chiefs who are found of encouraging tribal fights by saying we have never been defeated by X since the creation of the world.

    Two, You said the constitutional development funds will be used through MPs or Ministers from every constituency. Do you think transparency and accountability exist in your Government? You are actually enriching them indirectly and covering the eyes of the community with a white sheet.
