Sudan FM forced to cancel Kenya trip

March 19, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Karti was forced to cancel a trip to Kenya as part of his African tour, Sudan Tribune has learned.

Sources at the foreign ministry in Khartoum told Sudan Tribune that Karti had failed to find a seat on a flight from Addis Ababa, where he was on a visit, to Nairobi and as such returned back home.

Karti still intends to complete his tour which was supposed to take him to seven countries, the sources said and added that this incident is part of difficulties faced by the Sudanese diplomacy which does not have its own planes for these kind of missions.

Last month, the Sudanese foreign minister blasted the finance ministry saying that it has restricted his spending and made his job more difficult.

He noted that there were two items in his ministry’s budgets that saw cuts from last year by 26% and 40% respectively. Karti expressed concern saying that he is “puzzled” over how his ministry will manage for the remainder of the year given the financial situation.

Earlier this year, the Sudanese government approved an austerity package that partially removed subsidies on sugar and petroleum products with further cuts expected to follow later this year.

Among the steps taken that would have likely impacted the foreign ministry is a 30% reduction in foreign travel for government officials and 10% in the budget of diplomatic missions abroad.

    Hahahaha,

    H.E, FM

Things are getting worse brother before the S. Sudan closes its natural resources and focus only on South Sudan betterment rather than a filthy and worthless so-called GoNu.

Your voices are heard early about the economic crisis before i celebrate the Independence of My Beloved Country.I grant you a FM seat in Juba since you guys don’t want to leave me alone.

The bullet i shot up the air in Kassala, during my coming to Khartoum for the celebration of CPA by Dr. John Garang reminded me that Arabs will beg me for something after Independence.

Thanks to my colleagues who were with me in NEW Brigate from 2000 till the CPA day, we are the worriors and champions.

And thanks to my President for allowing me to study in order to recover the days i have spent shooting arabs asses on the hills from Eritrea through Adrob land.

if you ask me i would prefer that our ministry apply these cuts rather than living in one country with you southerners. I remember till now when i was a kid and always a southerner thief comes with a knife and oil in his body to steal things from our house and me next to my mom shivering. now thank god the situation is much better all we need is for Darfur to gain its independence only then i can say i love my country.
