President Mayardit: Re-evaluate your Amnesty!

By Luk Kuth Dak

May 4, 2011 — As South Sudan continues to grapple with the worsening security crisis, It’s critically important for all to recognize the fact not everybody will be happy for our achievement of becoming an independent state – including some of our own. It’s also true that some people take kindness for weakness.

Unfortunately,, the warlords have done exactly that to the generous amnesty extended to them by the Chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) & the President of the government of South Sudan ( GoSS) 1st Lt. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit.

Rightfully, the people of South Sudan aren’t the only people who have every reason to worry and to be apprehensive about the dramatic increase of violent, our friends, particularly in the Western world, have some legitimate concerns that if nothing is done in a hurry to end the security crisis in the region, it’s possible that South Sudan could turn into another Somalia. Such is a serious warning that ought be taken with absolute urgency against Those who wish to turn our nation into Somalia. They must be dealt with and defeated as swiftly as possible.

There is an eloquent saying that goes: “ Once a traitor, always will be a traitor.” However, the central questions are: What is it about the word “ traitor” the Sudan people’s Liberation Movement ( SPLM) doesn’t understand? And why is it that there is no time- frame for the amnesty?

We demand some answers.

For decades now, those warlords have made an extraordinary luxurious living terrorizing and looting their own people, while fighting besides their masters in Khartoum. It’s unrealistic that anyone would expect the warlords to give it all up for a monthly salary from GoSS ( which often comes late). After all, most of them, if not all, have an army of wives and spoiled rotten children who are obviously used to the lavish life style that continues to pour in from the NCP regime. The question is: Do you think that they can just simply walk away from that Paradise?

I don’t

Clearly, no one wants war, especially those of us who haven’t fought one. Plato puts it best. He said: “ Only the dead have seen the end of war”. However, there comes a time when enough really is enough. President Kiir, and yes the people of South Sudan, have been extremely patient with the warlord generals. But even patience itself has its course, and in this case, it’s growing thinner and thinner by the day. Therefore, we believe that now is the right time for the President to re-evaluate his amnesty policy offer, put a time-frame to it, and stick it out with those who do not want peace. In my humble judgment, that’s the only language the warlords seem to understand.

Reading a couple of statements made by the NCP’s darlings, the so-called Gadeet and Athor, there’s no question on my mind that Khartoum really is firmly and heavily standing behind the warlord traitors.

Worst of all, the ICC most wanted fugitive, Omer Al Basher has said yesterday in South Kordofan that: “ Abyei will always be part and parcel of the North”.

Does it get any crazier than that? You be the judge.

Amnesty can not be forever.

    Hi Luk,

Your artilce is well written and even free from bianess but get already to defend it, since you will be attacked by some bloggers because you have just disagreed with warlords’supporters and those with bogus academic degrees; who incite troubled traitors to push their political interests.

Yet another aspect of the issue worth commenting upon is that our legitimate Generals are being insulted and accused of having raked in pots of money in the guise of helping non-traitors. Such insults are beneath comment but they are bandied about so much that they make peace-loving Southerners even more insensitive than they already are.

    Dear Luk Kuth,

Congratulations for your war-winning article. Too much of every thing is bad. Patiency pays, but pains. H.E Kiir has been very patient, his patiency culminated into him offering that unforgettable October amnesty to all the traitors. Hardly will they understand that Kiir is a leader by default. therefore, I would definately agree with you in re-evaluating the amnesty he had offered in vain. Our generation will not accept to become victim of old and soon to die-out generation. Traitors, they will not succeed!

    Mr. Luk Kuth,
The challenges that face our government need each of us to give some contribution.Especially,on the security issue, people of Southern Sudan have to help the government to give up their arms and to respect the rules. At the point of Militia, people of Southern Sudan will not coordinate with them because they have associated with the enemies of CPA and Southern Sudan Government ought not allow them to succeed by all means.

Hi Bill Dave (Luke Kuoth Dak):

You are known to be a bought out Nuer whose vision is self-benefit and lacking the clarity and wisdom why generals are defecting and militia are growing in number exponentially. Even two years old can rebel and abandon his/her mother if she is crock, greedy and discipline lacking. You better shut up Mr. MAGOT.

I think fighting should be left to dogs. Gone are the years when we use to think that rebellions can solve problems. Now its time for us to solve our difference through dialogue.
