Sudanese army declares end to military operations in Abyei

May 29, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) announced on Saturday that it has ended its military operation in Abyei which lies on the North-South borders, a week after it moved on to seize control of the oil-producing region.

Sudan’s official news agency (SUNA) quoted SAF spokesperson Al-Sawarmi Khalid Sa’ad as saying that Abyei now “enjoys safety and security”.

The military spokesperson called on the Dinka Ngok, Misseriya and other tribes to return to the region and resume their lives there. He vowed that SAF will provide protection to national and international humanitarian aid groups operating in Abyei.

Khartoum justified its takeover of Abyei by saying that it was in retaliation to an ambush near the region it blamed on the Southern military groups. The SAF convoy that came under attack was escorted by peacekeepers from the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS).

Widespread fighting and looting forced around 40,000 people to flee down muddy roads without their possessions. Entire villages were emptied, international organizations say.

The 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) promised Abyei residents a referendum over whether to join the north or south, but that did not take place as neither could agree who was qualified to vote.

The South already voted last January in a separate referendum in favor of secession which will become official in July.

SAF need to know that the Abyei battle is just a matter of time. We would have solved the SAF from entering to Abyei for good. SPLA would have driven out SAF just within 7 days if SAF can endure the fight but because of our awaiting right, let the SAF think that they drive out SPLA with their force, which i think is a baseless. We are sick about the displacement of our Dinka Ngok in the Abyei. Let wait!

Thanks is to Dr. Riek Machar and his team for the partial job well done. Machar Team should leave no stone unturn. The SAF must move out of Abiey and Dinka Ngok must reenjoy the peace.

Dr. Machar, the peace should not be enjoy only by Dinka. The Bull Nuer whose thier homes were burn to ash by SPLA this week have to be compensated. Kok Ruei, Minister of humanitarian Affair, should not only be concerned about the safety of Dinka Ngok and let Bull Nuer children live in rain while it is our SPLA that did this shameful act (burning to ash thier homes). The SPLA supposed to grantee their safety.

Dr. Machar, the burning down of the Bul Nuer land by SPLA and who supplied heavy Weapon to Dinka Communinites that loted 7,000 head of cattle from Bul Nuer must be investigated and the culprits must be brought to justice. YOU MUST not allow Dinkas do what they are doing to South Sudanese tribes simply because we all deserve having peace.

Northern armies will pay back for their crimes in Abyei if they choose to stay past July 9th. Now is not right time for retaliation, we will enjoy our independence first and dogs will be driven out from our house later.

The lost of lives and destruction of property would not have ocurred if president Kiir had gone to Khartoum immediately after the siege, no wonder better late than never. He was in Khartoum on Saterday for talk with Bashir on Abiei. Way forward, find out who started firing at SAF which was under UNMIS escort, if found, the law shoud take it course. Investigate and punish the wrong doers. MAUMAU

    Dear readers:

This has nothing to do with the visit of Dr. Riek Machar and his delegation to Khartoum.

It’s a standard procedures of any professional armed forces to declare end any military operations in the area of operations, when its so deemed safe for them or defeated the intended target i.e in this case, the SPLA. even if the SPLA was simply doing a strategic withdrawal. one’s must agree that Abyei is all clear of any SPLA forces, therefore, prompted such announcement from SAF.

So finally they have come to their sense. Does this meant the end to military occupations of Abyei or what? I don’t understand the language of those war mongers in the North?

Southerners Sudanese would you please take patience for awaiting independence announcement first but later on we must show North Sudan tougher lesson.

All Sons and daughters of Southern Sudanese must be patient just to make sure we gain what the SPLA/SPLM was been fighting for however, this North Sudan aggressive has repains to the movement of the SPLA which we lost our innocents people for two decades and I would asking GOSS and all Southerners Sudanese people to be really preparing and have a fully meaning to what the North Sudan have made such aggressiveness.

GOSS also must read and listen to all individuals Southern Sudanese who are always sending letters to the GOSS for their viewpoint and their concerning about many issue. I am no a liberty to explain everythings at this website that, seemingly to be use by unknow people including Northern Sudanese but GOSS must read those letters, there are good recommendiation on how they can shape it their planning.

    Dear Same Eto,

There is nothing laughable in this case and laughter will soon turn into wailing if your forces don’t evacuate Abyei.
You may think that South didn’t respond to this aggression because they are weak or cowards. No, this is not the case. We know your intentions and as such, we cannot throw away what we toiled for fifty years just in a matter of four weeks away. Otherwise we will be worst fools than you.

SAF is a hollow institution that can get destroyed in a matter of one week if a real war begins. After 9th July, I believe SAF will withdraw from Abyei, or we will drive them out with their government in Khartoum and put in place black power there.
This is our strategy and plan if you fake Arabs don’t stop your behavior of aggression and ambitions of annexing territories.
The world is tired of you in Sudan and a a solution is to oust you from power and see Darfurians, Nubians and Funjs takeover the rule in what will remain Sudan proper after South officials secede in July.

    @Aleu

You are very right Aleu, remember patience always pays you a reward. let’s achieve what is right now in front of us, that is the independence on July 9, then if they want we will treat our borders like Israel and Palestine borders and you know what this means.

All Southerners should be calm ans patient at the moment so that the world will know who are the war mongers.

This announcement has nothing to do with the situations SAF has caused to the people of Abyei. Sudan armed forces has did it intentionally to emitied Abyei in order to takeover oil but not people.
They will not get chances of living in Abyei any more.

If a hyna/lion can not be trusted on protecting animals in the forest or at home, how can the SAF provides protection to Abyie people and NGOs mean while Sudan army forces are already known for their brutality and criminal acts in the South and Darfur.

Dear all, Let not keep on wasting our time writting nonsense on the media about Abyei. Instead for us to keep on lying on the media is better for any of you who think is patriatic to joint the army then to sit at refugees camp in abroad and start to fight unseenable war in the internet. SAF has defeated SPLA in point blank who may say no meanwhile Abyei was captured by enemy forces and they have driven away our forces from Abyei. In this critical situation which our people are now facing at Agok may you still believe or boast that you have a strong army which can protect you from the enemy in the Southern?. I lost my trust on Southern Sudan army because the cann’t put fire in grass and failed to extinguisher it. So as a person don’t do what you are not sure you would have properly planned it and if it happen for you to do your things abruptly without proper plan on it, i hope no one can trust you in whatever you had plan to do during your life time. Why should SPLA forces do claimed that they are not ready to fight and a military men don’t slept with all his two eyes and his ears too. They only sleep with one eye and one ear because they may have to be very cautious that in any time there must be some thing bad that will be happening according to the military strategic doctrine. But now our Soldiers went and slept for good and they have forgotten their mission that is assigned to them by the nation.

    Sam.

SPLA militia is not well trained and malnourished as well. In order for them to survive they have no other choice or option only to abuse alcohol as their only cheap source of energy. but as you may know alcohol is very toxic to liver and nervous system including the brain that controls the whole body. so you can not blame them as they are innocents being used by SPLM syndicate in Juba to fight their losing battle. Shame on them.

Dear readers,Bashir is short sighted, winning a battle does not mean winning the war.We are virtually going to fight a terrible war,it may involve three generations, infact, our war is protracted & we have all along been mentioning this in all our manfestos. We have succeeded in de-arabising the close areas of 1920s namely South Sudan,South Blue Nile & Nuba mountains,we have been sucessful in Dar fur,no Arabs now in Dar fur,we are soon going to convince black Messyeria that they are not Arabs.Eastern Sudan is already at war with Arabs. Why cry for Abeie? We are going to retake it any time of our choice.Dont stagnate in the valley of despair, things are going on well.
