Sudan ranked among top failed nations
June 27, 2011 (JUBA) – Sudan has been listed as the third most failed state in the world after Somalia and Chad, in this year’s failed states index, compiled by the Fund for Peace and published by Foreign Policy on 20 June, after neighbouring Chad and Somalia, which occupies the unenviable first position.
Sudan is due to split into two separate nation in less than two weeks, when South Sudan will become independent, following a successful referendum held in January this year. The vote was a key part of Sudan’s 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement, which ended over two decades of war between North and South of the country.
South Sudan will, by UN standards will be one of the world’s poorest countries.
Somalia, according to the index, has now held the top spot for four years in a row, reportedly indicating the depth of the crisis in the international community’s longest-running failure.
The new edition of the index, according to the foreign policy magazine, “draws on some 130,000 publicly available sources to analyze 177 countries and rate them on 12 indicators of pressure on the state during the year 2010 — from refugee flows to poverty, public services to security threats.”
The report questioned why Sudan still remains on the brink of new forms of violent conflict, despite the country’s closely monitored January referendum, which was free of bloodshed.
According to the report, however, this year’s biggest challenge of all will be dealing with the global fallout of the Arab revolutions.
“Few could have predicted that a street vendor’s humiliation [in Tunisia] would be the spark that set an entire region ablaze, with consequences that may reach far beyond the Middle East,” says the report.

Thanks God that we have quited this failed state of Sudan, and lets pray that those of Athor,Gadet and the likes come back to the mother SPLA/M for a possible negotiations.
My message to those rebelous generals is that please come back for the sake of your people and continue your normal life, otherwise the money Bashir gave you to destabilize your own people will end after 09/07/11 then you will end up like a lame duck.As such you still have time to surrender and be forgiven.

Well, Sudan was still in violent because the Old regime government were not listen for the fact.
Egyptian Former president told Omar al Bashir and many people from his NCP to make sure they have be very opening for changes in Sudan unfortunately, they refused to take that good advices from Former Egyptian president. Now the Khartoum government want to returned people back to Idea of war which they haven’t won during 21 years of civil war in Sudan.
I do agree that,Khartoum government will follow same unrest in the Middle East and their neighbioring in North Africa countries. Some Northern Sudanese were pushing and supporting Omar al Bashir for all these killing happening in the Sudan but now many marginalization Sudanese people are backing away from Omar al Bashir and that, could lead the Khartoum government to even more isolation from othes societies. In many years when people tried to tell them, sharing power in Sudan’s government and balancing the nation budgets equally for all must be solve then, the Khartoum domination did ignored saying, this problem is only Southern Sudanese and others regions have no any problem but they understood lately and it is too late for them.
I just disagree on the notion that, Southern Sudan comparison with Chad and Somila in term of economic and others things. I am strongly belief that, Southern Sudan for few years, is going to catch up world economic even it could go beyond to that. Saudi Arabia before they didn’t opens their oil and business connection, they were too poor way not even comparing to Chad nation depending on begging Western nation in many years unlikely to these few they building good relationship to indictment early for unknown reason. I am hopefully that, Southern Sudan nation will rise with good economic because they have a lots of things to built the young nation in Africa.

I think the challenge is with us in the new nation to be on July 9 20/11.
I am with the openion that all the money stolen by our big people be returned and those who did this be punish in the courts of law.
Dura Saga, be well investigated like what the parliamentary committee have recomended, and those who pocket the money without deliverying the Dura be fine and returned the money to the Government, and the officials be arrested to prevent future occurance.
If all the contract are assessed to established how they were awarded, many people will be sacked or people will have the idea who wrote to the Minister of Finance, to release such money, and why always to one or 2 people like Bol Mel, Bol Bol Areec?
People will have right to say why is it always that things are given to family or why removed elected Chamber of Commerce, and put Bol Mel by Degree? Is it not message in itself?

This is a politically motivated report based on imagination rather than facts and totally biased. If we agree with them Sudan is a failed state how it could be possible that it rank after countries like Afghanistan and Iraq (recently occupied by USA) DRC, Eritrea and may other African countries. Just count the number of schools, universities, hospitals, factories, water and electricity plants, paved roads, food production and number of doctors, teachers, engineers and skilled technician..etc.

GENEVA Some 1,400 civilians have been killed in southern Sudan this year, many by ill-disciplined former rebels incorporated into the security forces before its secession, a senior UN official said on Wednesday.
Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights Kyung-wha Kang said that to halt such mayhem it was vital for the police and army of the new state to be trained and for their work to be observed by human rights monitors.
“Our information is that at least 1,400 civilians have been killed in south Sudan this year alone,” said Kang, who has just returned from a visit there. South Sudan is due to become independent from the north on July 9.
“There is a lot of internal conflict over cattle and cattle-rustling, but there is also a great deal of violence by the SPLA,” she said, referring to the Sudanese People’s Liberation Army of the former rebels against Northern rule.
“Former combatants are being integrated into the army and police without discipline … This is a very ill-disciplined military,” Kang, a national of South Korea, told a news conference.

The report’s assessment couldn’t have been any fairer. We are bound to be in that quagmire for centuries to come, but thanks to South Sudanese who have decided to make a break. We have a unique opportunity to rebuild our country. There is a lot of goodwill and enthusiasm. Unfortunately, there are others amongst us who are interested in establishing the same unproductive and potentially destabilizing political system by manipulating the constitution. The next six month to two years will be the most challenging. Besides, the consensus around to throw the yoke of the oppressive govt in Khartoum, our ability to resolve our difference have been pathetic. His abounds of such example, The Nassir split, the fallout from the resent election indicates that there is need for tolerance and respect for divergent opinions. I would like to wish all my fellow south Sudanese a happy independence
