Council of ministers congratulates Sudanese people on the peace agreement
KHARTOUM, May 29, 2004 (SUNA) — The Council of Ministers, chaired by the President of the Republic, Gen. Omer Al-Bashir, Saturday held a historic extraordinary meeting at which it congratulated the Sudanese people on the great victory in the peace field.
The Council of Ministers stated that peace has been the aspiration of all sectors of the Sudanese nation and will be conducive to the prevalence of stability, peace and development in the country.
The emergency meeting was attended by all the executive leaders, including the federal ministers and the Walis (governors) of the states.
The First Vice-President, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, acquainted the meeting with the important features and contents of the documents which were signed between the government and SPLM.
The Council of Ministers has hailed the efforts and patience of the government delegation for the negotiations toward reaching the aspired goal of peace.
The meeting also praised the great support and precise follow up of the IGAD Secretariat, member states and partners as well as the international community and the United States who encouraged the two negotiating parties to surpass the differences and to build the mutual confidence throughout the past period.
Meanwhile, the First Vice – President pointed out that the two parties and the other political forces will intensify their efforts during the first three years of the interim period to pave the way for free and fair elections and establishment of the elected government.
The Council of Ministers called on all the Sudanese people in and outside Sudan to respond to Sudan call upon them to boost realization of peace and stability in the framework of the united Sudan.
The meeting also called on the citizens of Darfur to adhere to dialogue and negotiation toward achieving a peaceful solution for Darfur crisis.
The Council of Ministers called on the international community to provide support to Sudan peace agreement.
