Southern Sudan church decries war

KAMPALA, June 09, 2004 (New Vision) — The bishop of Southern Sudan, the Rt. Rev. Justin Arama Badi, has decried the anti-Church forces in his country that have caused war and suffering and denied Christians freedom of worship, reports Eddie Ssejjoba.

He said Christians were not allowed to preach the Gospel in Khartoum unless authorised and must remain indoors.

Badi was speaking at the opening of a six-day mission retreat camp for Christian leaders at Nabugabo Retreat Centre in Masaka, which attracted clergymen and Christian leaders from the Great Lakes region, Europe and the US.

They came prayed for peace, unity and strength for Christians to remain one body, and with one voice to be able to overcome the many challenges facing the Church today.

Badi said despite the long suffering of the Christians in Sudan, they would never give up Jesus Christ.

“When we come here and sing and dance with you, inside we are shedding tears because of what is happening in our country,” he said.
