Warrap State: 1,500 youth mobilised as training commences

April 23, 2012 (JUBA) – At least 1,500 youth in South Sudan’s Warrap State have been voluntarily recruited and will embark on military training as part of a nationwide mobilisation campaign, state officials told Sudan Tribune on Sunday, as borders clashes with neighbouring Sudan continue.
The recruitment of young people to join the army and paramilitary forces has been occurring on both sides of the largely un-demarcated oil-rich Sudan-South Sudan border in recent weeks.
Morris Mabior, the initiative coordinator for Warrap State’s voluntary mobilisation recruitment and sensitisation program said the 1,500 youth, mainly recruited from Twic and Gogrial West counties will be taken to a training camp in Wunyik, Northern Bahr el Ghazal.
The process, he added, is part of the one-month recruitment initiative targeting all the six counties in the state, whereby initiators and representatives from the security forces, make frequent travels to the counties to mobilise people.
