Eritrean opposition conference starts in the Sudanese capital

KHARTOUM, June 19, 2004 (SUNA) — The sixth session of the general conference of the Eritrean Liberation Front-The Revolutionary Council started at the camps ground Saturday, which will last till 23 June.

Deputy chairman of the executive committee of the front Ahmad Nasir said the conference aims at reaching a unified formula as a programme of work for all Eritrean opposition factions and working out policies for realizing common goals, as well as agreeing on a mechanism of work that commensurates with the political developments the Eritrean arena is witnessing now.

He added that the most important topic on the agenda of the conference is represented in rescuing the Eritrean people from the reality they experience now and realizing democracy that contributes to the development and stability of Eritrea.

He stressed the strong relations linking the Sudanese and Eritrean peoples describing them as deeply-rooted, denouncing attempts by the Eritrean regime to create crises with Sudan.
