Delegation of African human rights’ commission begins visit to Sudan
KHARTOUM, July 08, 2004 (SUNA) — A delegation of the African Human Rights Commission arrived in Khartoum Thursday on a two-week visit to Sudan to get acquainted with the situation of human rights in Darfur states.
In a statement to SUNA, the Rapporteur of the Advisory Council on Human Rights, Abdul-Moniem Osman Mohamed Taha, said that the visiting delegation will meet on Friday with the Advisory Council on Human Rights, adding that the delegation is due to meet on Saturday with the Minister of Justice and a number of ministers.
Taha indicated that the visiting delegation will leave for Al-Fasher, capital of North Darfur State, to meet with the Wali of North Darfur State, officials at the judicial organ and security Organ and attorney office, besides visiting displaced people camps.
He said that the delegation will submit its report on the visit to the African Human Rights Commission, which is based in the Gambian capital. It is to be recalled that the African Human Rights Commission is an organ of the African Union, which is assuming a leading role in the monitoring of cease-fire and finding a peaceful solution for Darfur problem.
