Sudan seeks to ship patients to Tunisian hospitals: Tunis

TUNIS, July 16 (AFP) — Sudan is seeking to use Tunisian hospitals to treat Sudanese patients, the health ministry revealed.

Tunisian Health Minister Habib Mbarek met with the Sudanese ambassador to Tunis, Ismail Ahmed Ismail, about a possible “convention which would organize networks of health care service for Sudanese patients in Tunisian medical facilities”, Tunisian news agency TAP reported late Thursday.

Certain “complicated procedures” would be outsourced to Tunisia, such as heart surgery, neurosurgery or organ transplants, TAP said.

The health ministry said Tunisia was known for the quality of its medical care and seeks to become known as a “health care destination” for patients seeking high-quality medical service and experienced doctors.

Tunisia already receives patients from neighboring states Algeria and Libya, and has launched an initiative to attract British nationals who want to combine tourism and medical care in north Africa.
