Kenyan court detains South Sudanese man

October 15, 2013 (NAIROBI) – A Kenyan court has ruled that a South Sudanese national accused of kidnap should not be released without a Kenyan surety, The Daily Nation newspaper reported on Monday.

A magistrate in the Kenyan town of Nakuru said court needs Paul Munyol Lual to have a Kenyan surety for fear that he could flee the country if granted bail since he is a foreigner.

The South Sudanese, a student at Mount Kenya University campus in Nakuru, is accused of abducting two children on October 7.

It is alleged that Paul Munyol Lual kidnapped the children with intent of using them in demand for a South Sudanese girl who had eloped with her lover.

Lual was arrested on Thursday last week and also faces another charge of assaulting one, Akoi Atem Jok.

Court ordered that Lual be detained at Nakuru Central police station to give police more time to carry out further investigation and arrest an accomplice he is suspected to have committed the kidnap with.
