African Development Bank allocates $168m to Sudan

August 3, 2014 (KHARTOUM) – The resident representative of the African Development Bank (ADB) in Khartoum Abdul Kamara disclosed that resources allocated to Sudan in the 13th renewal of the fund, are estimated at $168 million for the years 2014 to 2016.

Sudan’s minister of finance and national economy Badr al-Din Mahmoud said during a meeting with Kamara said that the resources will be utilised for a range of projects to be agreed between the two parties, including efforts to improve education and ward off the effects of drought.

Mahmoud stressed Sudan’s interest in developing the capacities of the private sector, pointing to the importance of the upcoming ADB’s mission in order to establish a workshop to raise awareness of the private sector to take advantage of the money allocated by the bank.

The minister also stressed the importance of developing trade cooperation relations with South Sudan and the establishment of a free zone for the benefit of the two countries within the framework of the study prepared by the ADB for the development of regional trade.

He also discussed with the ADB official poverty eradication projects in Sudan and the relationship of cooperation between the two sides.
