SPLM-N rebels say military attacks aim to support election boycott

March 13, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) claimed an attack on the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) in South Kordofan, saying it was carried out in support of a campaign to boycott elections.

SAF spokesperson Alswarmi Khaled Thursday said their troops repulsed an attack by the rebel SPLM-N fighters on Kuldegi, located north to South Kordofan state capital Kadugli.

SPLM-N spokesperson, Arnu Ngutulu Lodi, on Friday confirmed the attack, saying it took place with similar attacks in Tosi in Talodi district, and Alrahmaniyah in Abu Jubaiyha district. He said further attacks will be conducted against the government garrisons in the future.

“The goal of the Sudan Call military campaign is to combine the different means of struggle – military action, popular uprising and civil disobedience – in order to stop the elections and topple the one-man regime,” said Lodi in a statement extended to Sudan Tribune.

Last February, the opposition alliance National Consensus Forces (NCF) launched a campaign for polls boycott under the slogan Erhal (Leave).

The Sudan Call forces agreed on 27 February to meet the National Congress Party (NCP)-led government in Addis Ababa to discuss the preparations of the national dialogue which aims to end war and hold constitutional conference.

While the opposition NCF refused to participate in the preparatory meeting, the rebel groups of the Sudanese Revolutionary Front and the National Umma Party agreed to participate in the encounter representing the Call Sudan forces.

However, all the Sudan Call forces demand to postpone the elections and to implement a number of measures aiming to create a conducive environment in the country before to participate in the national dialogue process which will be held inside the country.

In a separate statement issued on Friday, the Sudan Liberation Movement -Abdel Wahid (SLM-AW) said they recaptured Rokero garrison in western Jebel Marra.

SLM-AW military spokesperson Mustafa Tampour said they destroyed SAF garrison in the areas and killed 68 members of the Sudanese army including a captain.
