Twic East county citizens celebrate inauguration of new office

July 25, 2015(MABIOR) – Hundreds of Twic East county residents and politicians gathered in Panyagoor on Saturday to witness the inauguration of the new county office in Panyagoor.

The facility, initiated by county commissioner, Dau Akoi Jurkuch with support from Twic East politicians and Jonglei state government, reportedly cost nearly SSP700, 000 (about $221,000) to complete.

Commissioner Jurkuch described as victory the completion of the project, saying the county for more than 40 years, lacked a functional administrative office.

“The historical construction of the Twic East county office is the greatest victory of administration and the entire citizens of Twic East. We appreciate the role played by the governor of Jonglei, for supporting our county in all aspect of development and social activities”, the commissioner told those gathered at the county headquarters Saturday.

The county, with support from the state government, reportedly managed to repair 20 kilometers of primary dyke, Panyagoor hospital, which was some month back destroyed by fire and had had also constructed a new ward to increase its existing capacity.

The speaker of Jonglei state assembly, Peter Deng Aguer, equally praised the construction of Twic East county administrative office.

“There has been no structure like this since 43 years ago. It is a great achievement in the county. We will work for peace to come, through our people so that we do more in this place”, said Deng.

CONTINOUS PROGRESS, DESPITE WAR

Meanwhile, the governor of Jonglei state, John Kong, said the ongoing war should not be taken as excuse to halt development work.

“Development should not be stopped because of the war. I thank the commissioner of Twic East for this initiative. It is good if money contributed goes into development like this, without misuse,” said Kong.

He thanked Twic East communities for the reception accorded to him, urging them to do more to resolve pending issues between Dacuek and Ayual clans that causes conflicts.

The Twic East paramount chief, Manyok Ajak, said his had county finally got a “close-mouthed” leader who doesn’t put his interests first before those of the population.

Women ululated and danced in excitement as the new facility was officially inaugurated by officials, who included law makers and politicians from the country’s largest state.
