Sudanese army raids SPLM-N area in Blue Nile: spokesperson

January 9, 2016 (KHARTOUM) – A Sudanese military Antonov carried out a new attack on a rebel controlled area in the Blue Nile state south of Kurmuk town said the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement spokesperson on Saturday.

In a statement extended to Sudan Tribune, Arnu Ngutulu Lodi claimed that the a Sudanese army plane, bombed villages of Jardan and Alshima located south of Kurmuk, “with ten barrels bombs that completely destroyed and burn three farms”.

The air strike created a state of and terror among the civilian population in the SPLM-N held areas.

”This is a systematic policy the regime has developed to starve and displace civilians in the SPLM-N controlled areas,” together with the ban of humanitarian access to citizens in the war affected areas since 2011,’ Lodi further said.

The Sudanese army spokesperson was not available for comment.

The two warring parties in Blue Nile and South Kordofan states failed last December to reach a cessation of hostilities agreement enabling aid groups to reach the civilians in the conflict affected areas.

However, they continue to meet in informal meetings in bid to better prepare the upcoming official round of peace talks.
