Since a week ago, Sudanese army has engaged in simultaneous attacks on the SPLM-N positions throughout the South Kordofan, aiming to overwhelm their capabilities and disrupt their defences.

The large-scale offensive comes as the international community calls on the opposition groups including SPLM-N to accept framework agreement and negotiate a cessation of hostilities with Khartoum.

Sudanese army spokesperson Ahmed Khalifa al-Shami on Tuesday issued a statement saying the government troops are now controlling Um Serdiba, “the main rebel stronghold in Kadugli sector”, and Musharaka area.

Al-Shami further announced they repelled a rebel counter-attack to retake Karkakaia on Tuesday morning where they killed 55 rebels, adding “The army continues its progress towards the planned objectives in all axes, taking the lead in fighting and strangling the rebel lines.”

Last Sunday the army said they retook a number in South Kordofan including Al-Maradis, El Lipo, Kutna, Ugab, Karkakaia, and El-Biri.

FALSE PROPAGANDA

SPLM-N spokesperson Arnu Ngutulu lodi Tuesday issued a statement denying to claims of the Sudanese army that its troops are controlling Ugab and Karkakaia areas.

“SPLM-N would like to assure that, the fighting is still continuing up to now (…) in Karkraia, Ugab and other front lines. SPLA-N (fighters are) in full control of the situation and besiege (..) NCP forces and militias,” Lodi said.

He further went to describe the Sudanese army statements as ” completely false information and propaganda to boost their demoralized forces”.

The rebel official vowed to keep the public opinion informed of the latest military development on the ground.
