Bishop calls on Juba to take to court former WES governor
March 30, 2016 (YAMBIO) – A leading church leader in Western Equatoria state has called on the South Sudanese government not to keep in detention former governor of Western Equatoria state, Joseph Bangasi Bakosoro, saying he should be taken to court to determine his fate.
He blamed some key top government officials in South Sudan for keeping silent and doing less on the fate of the former governor.
The Bishop made this statement during the ride for peace sports program at Gbudue Stadium in Yambio saying that peace can be achieved in a country if some group is working for peace and some people are held in detention without taking them to court to be judged for the offense they have allegedly committed.
He added that as a citizen of the country, everybody has right to be respected and to be treated equally before the law.
“All citizens have right to be treated with respect before the law and have right to be taken to the Court of Law to be punished according to the articles and of the supreme document of the Country,” he said.
Hiboro referred to the amnesty from the President of the Republic of South Sudan which he offered to everybody in South Sudan paving way for forgiveness, reconciliation and trauma healing in order to bring permanent peace and harmony in the new country.
Civil Society groups in South Sudan have also been requesting for the release of the former governor of Western Equatoria but no response has been made either from the national security and the government of South Sudan.
The family of former governor continues to report about the deteriorating health situation of Bakosoro but he has been kept in detention for months now.
No charges have been made public which would have culminated in the detention of the former governor.
