Opposition faction sends delegates to World Bank meeting in Washington

April 12, 2016 (ADDIS ABABA) – A team of economic experts of the opposition faction of the SPLM-IO has headed to Washington DC to participate in the World Bank meeting, scheduled to take place from 11 to 18 April, 2016.

Ambassador Lumumba Stanislaus Di-Aping, chairperson of the national committee for human resource development and expert in finance and economics leads the 3-person team dispatched by the SPLM-IO leader, Riek Machar.

Sources from the office of the First Vice President designate told Sudan Tribune that Machar had written a letter to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) informing them about the participation of his team in the one-week long meeting.

World Bank and IMF officials also plan to meet with officials of the soon to be formed transitional government of national unity in Juba in order to assist it in rescuing the collapsing economy of the world’s youngest nation.

The Washington meeting of the world’s two financial institutions will review the economic situations in some of the fragile countries, with focus on South Sudan, among other nations.
