In a statement extended to Sudan Tribune , SLM-MM spokesperson Ahmed Hussein Mustafa said the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militiamen targeted and killed civilians in several villages in Wadi Magrib, north to Kutum in North Darfur.

Mustafa added the attacks were planned on information supplied by some informants newly recruited from the area, saying they successfully crushed the attack as they had been closely monitoring their movements.

The statement said a SLM-MM reconnaissance unit clashed with the RSF militiamen when they tried to move towards their position and defeated them near Bir Mazza on Wednesday.

The SLM-MM spokesperson said their fighters killed the commander of the assailant force and nine militiamen. Also, it said dozens were wounded and transported to El-Fasher Hospital.

The rebel military spokesperson went further to refute the government claims that Darfur is free of “revolutionary forces”, adding such statements remain ”wishful thinking and a denial of reality”.

He pointed out that these developments come at a time where the international community is trying to achieve peace across different platforms, and prove the regime’s lack of seriousness towards peace.

Following the capture of Srounq , the last stronghold in Jebel the SLM led by Abdel Wahid al-Nur Marra earlier this month, Sudanese officials said that Darfur region is free of armed groups.

The SLM-MM further claimed that most of the RSF troops stationed in Bir Mazza and Disa are in fact Chadian rebels enrolled by the Sudanese government.

Reached by Sudan Tribune, the Commissioner of Kutum County, Adam Awad al Karim admitted the occurrence of clashes in the area.

However, he denied that it was with the SLM rebels.

He said the RSF reconnaissance force clashed with some ”outlaws” in the area. He decried it as a “trivial incident” adding that the security situation in the area is stable.
