New Wau governor takes oath of office, calls for unity
June 29, 2016 (JUBA) – The newly appointed governor of Wau state has taken oath of office and called for unity among the people of the state.
Andrea Mayar Achor, the new governor who was appointed on 24 June, 2016, by the republican order on Tuesday left Wau town, the administrative headquarters of the new state and travelled to the national capital, Juba, in response to invitation from the office of the president for his inauguration.
He took the oaths of office, allegiance and secrecy on arrival and later signed the oath book, administered by the secretary to the cabinet.
Achor welcomed his appointment and thanked the President for the trust he bestowed on him as the new governor.
He reaffirmed his commitment to serve and execute his duties to the best of his ability to fulfil the functions of his office. The governor of the troubled stat also pledged to serve the nation with diligence for the realization of development aspiration and in fulfilment of the vision of the fragmented ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) which advocates taking towns to the rural areas.
“I would like to thank the president for the trust and confidence to appoint me as the new governor. It is honour for me and I would like to reiterate that my appointment is not the end of everything. It is just an assignment but the real work will requires collective efforts and for this reason I urge all to work in collaboration with me and others to stabilize the security and embrace peace, unity and reconciliation of the people,” governor Achor told Sudan Tribune on Wednesday after taking oath of office.
Achor said he was now ready to return to the state to go and preside over activities aimed at restoring law and order in the town and to facilitate the return of the civilians who fled the violence to their homes.
Violence erupted in Wau town on Friday last week between government forces and armed group, resulting to death of dozens and displacement of thousands more.
