EU Commissioner for Crisis Management in South Sudan

April 20, 2021 (JUBA) – The European Union (EU) Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarcic is in South Sudan on a three-day working visit.

Lenarcic, the EU said, will visit Pibor in South Sudan’s Jonglei state and nearby areas to assess the food insecurity and other humanitarian needs and the response funded by the European Commission Humanitarian Office (ECHO).

Lenarcic is also scheduled to meet the highest authorities in South Sudan and will brief a selected team of journalists on Thursday.

This is the first visit to South Sudan by an EU executive body member since 2015.

Last year, the EU reportedly allocated €59 million for humanitarian actions covering the response to floods, the COVID-19 pandemic and food insecurity across the world’s youngest nation.
