Sudan to start talks with new Darfur rebel group in Chad

KHARTOUM, Dec 9, 204 (SUNA) — The Minister of Investment and member of the Leadership Office of the National Congress, Al-Sharif Ahmed Omer Badr, is due to lead Friday the government delegation for negotiations with the rebel National Reform and Development Movement of Darfur in the Chadian capital, N’djamena.

The negotiations were declared recently by the United Nations and the African Union, through a mediation of the Chadian government.

In a press statement Thursday, the National Congress Secretary General, Ibrahim Ahmed Omer, said that the negotiations with the rebel National Reform and Development Movement comes in line with the ongoing negotiations with other rebel movements of Darfur in Abuja, toward achievement of comprehensive peace in Darfur and the interest of Sudan.

He said that the first session of negotiation with the National Reform and Development Movement will include reaching a cease-fire agreement which will guarantee easy delivery of humanitarian aid to the needy people and normalization of the conditions in Darfur.
