Sudan govt, opposition alliance to resume talks Friday in Cairo

KHARTOUM, Jan 13, 2005 (SUNA) — President of the Republic and Chairman of the National Congress, Omer Al-Bashir, has affirmed the importance of continuity of the negotiations between the government and the opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Cairo for realizing national accord and consensus.

Al_Mergahi.jpgThis came during President Al-Bashir’s meeting Thursday with the First Vice – President, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, Secretary General of the National Congress, Ibrahim Ahmed Omer, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Tahir, the Political Secretary at the National Congress,. Magzoub Al-Khalifa, along with the chairman and members of the government delegation for the negotiations with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Cairo.

In a press statement after the meeting, the External Relations Secretary at the National Congress and member of the government delegation for the negotiations, Kamal Obeid, said that the delegation has acquainted President Al-Bashir with outcome of the past sessions of negotiations between the two parties in Cairo.

He said that the session of negotiations with the NDA will begin in Cairo on Friday. The government delegation to the talks will be led by Nafie Ali Nafie, Secretary of Organization at the National Congress.

Obeid pointed out that the session of negotiation will discuss the project of agreement which was reached by the government and NDA last week and the preparations to declare the agreement. He said that the final agreement between the two parties would be signed in the first week of next February in Cairo.
