Sudan’s former rebel leader arrives in Eritrea for talks
ASMARA, Apr 26, 2005 (Sudan Tribune) — SPLM leader John Garang has arrived in the Eritrean capital, Asmara, to hold talks with the Eritrean leadership, the opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leader, Mohamed Osman al-Mirghani, and other movements from eastern and western Sudan.
Garang’s visit coincides with the arrival in Asmara yesterday of Norwegian Minister of International Development Hilda Johnson.
The minister is due to meet members of the NDA executive office today, while tomorrow she will meet representatives of the Eastern Front, an alliance between the Free Lions made up of the Arab Rashaidah nomadic tribes and the Beja Congress, as well as the Eritrean leadership.
