January 29, 2025 (KHARTOUM BAHRI) – The Sudanese army continued its rapid advance in central and southern Khartoum Bahri on Wednesday, four days after regaining control of the Khartoum oil refinery north of the city and breaking the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) siege of the Signal Corps headquarters in the far south.

Soldiers released videos showing the army in control of the Qatar Diyar Towers and the entrance to the Mak Nimr Bridge from Khartoum Bahri, located at the southernmost tip of the city, west of the Signal Corps headquarters. This bridge connects the city to the capital Khartoum.

The army said in a statement on Wednesday its forces and the Central Reserve Police were advancing on the headquarters of the Khartoum Bahri local police, the Mak Nimr Bridge, and several key towers.

Soldiers also posted photos of themselves at the Khartoum Bahri locality headquarters, located on the outskirts of the historic Hillet Hamad neighbourhood.

Sources indicate that the RSF presence is now limited to the southwestern part of Khartoum Bahri, specifically in Hillet Hamad. This is where the Friendship Palace Hotel, which the army has not yet reached, is located.

This hotel overlooks Tuti Island and faces the Republican Palace on the eastern bank of the Blue Nile. In addition, RSF groups are still stationed in the Kafouri neighbourhood in east Khartoum Bahri.

On Saturday, army spokesman Brigadier General Nabil Abdallah told reporters that the army was still dealing with RSF pockets in Khartoum Bahri.

On Wednesday, the army also took control of the al-Danaqla neighbourhood in central Khartoum Bahri. Soldiers and allied forces released videos of themselves with the remaining residents. There were reports of the army also advancing in the main Saad Qashra market area and the al-Dayoum neighbourhood.

On Tuesday, the army and its allied forces completed their control over the police towers, the al-Zarqa towers north of Khartoum Bahri, the al-Muassasah intersection, and the Paratroopers headquarters, which was being used as a medical base for the RSF.

Last Friday, the army announced the breaking of the siege on the Signal Corps headquarters south of Khartoum Bahri and the army’s general command headquarters in central Khartoum, as well as the expulsion of RSF forces from the Khartoum oil refinery, located about 60 km (37 miles) north of Khartoum Bahri.
