Kiir sacks Warrap State governor, Abyei administrator
February18, 2025 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has dismissed Warrap State governor, Gen. Francis Marial Abur, replacing him with Magok Magok Deng.
The announcement was made on the state-owned television (SSBC) on Tuesday.
The president’s decree did not, however, cite why Gen. Abu was removed.
Kiir, in a separate decree, appointed Justice Charles Abyei Jok as the new chief administrator of the Abyei Administrative Area, replacing Dr. Chol Deng Alak.
Dr. Chol had been in the position since January 2023 prior to his removal by Kiir.
Abyei is its own administrative Area claimed by both Sudan and South Sudan.
Kiir also relieved Santino Bol Montier as deputy chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC), appointing Aguek Ring Mabil as his successor.
The 2018 peace deal gives the president prerogative to appoint and dismiss government officials at both national and state level.
South Sudan has not conducted an election since March 2010.
