Sudan denies talks with Chad to ease tensions over RSF support

March 8, 2025 (PORT SUDAN) – Sudan has denied any ongoing diplomatic contacts with Chad to ease tensions over Khartoum’s accusations that N’Djamena is providing support to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a Sudanese diplomatic source told Sudan Tribune.

The Sudanese government accuses Chad of facilitating the transfer of logistical and military support to the RSF from the Amdjarass base and alleges that RSF commanders are present in Chadian territory.

Recent reports suggested Egyptian mediation and the arrival of a Chadian delegation in Port Sudan to normalize relations. Sources said Sudanese Sovereign Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan demanded the dismantling of the Amdjarass base and the closure of the Chadian border to RSF logistical operations as preconditions.

However, the Sudanese diplomatic source, speaking on condition of anonymity, denied any envoys from Chadian President Mahamat Idris Deby had arrived in Port Sudan for talks with Sudanese officials to address the crisis or repair bilateral relations.

Chad consistently denies Sudanese accusations of “fuelling the war in Sudan” by allowing the United Arab Emirates to use its territory to supply weapons to the RSF.

Former Chadian Foreign Minister Abdaraman Koulamallah said in a radio interview last October that Chad “has no interest in fuelling the war in Sudan by supplying weapons, as we are one of the few countries that have suffered significant repercussions from this war.”
