Sudan army says it destroyed dozens of RSF vehicles, drones in El Fasher

March 10, 2025 (EL FASHER) – Sudan’s army said on Monday it had destroyed 47 combat vehicles and trucks and downed over 100 drones belonging to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Fasher, North Darfur, over the past 10 days.

The army’s 6th Infantry Division, based in El Fasher, said in a statement obtained by Sudan Tribune that 15 of the destroyed trucks were carrying weapons and ammunition, while 12 were transporting RSF fighters. Twenty four-wheel-drive vehicles were also destroyed, it said.

El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state, is the last major city in the vast Darfur region not under RSF control. Since May, it has been the scene of intense fighting between the army, backed by allied armed groups, and the RSF.

The clashes have caused significant civilian casualties and displaced over 500,000 people, according to estimates. A prolonged siege has also led to severe shortages of food and medicine.

The army statement claimed the losses had dealt a “devastating blow” to RSF capabilities and morale.

It added that army and allied forces had secured the “Lafat Taqro” buildings south of El Fasher, previously an RSF stronghold, and the entire Al-Salam neighbourhood.

Separately, the statement said local resistance fighters in Wadkouta, southeast of El Fasher, repelled an RSF attack aimed at stealing livestock, killing 15 RSF fighters and capturing a vehicle.

The RSF has not yet commented on the army’s claims. Sudan Tribune was unable to verify the reported losses independently.

The fighting around El Fasher is part of a broader conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF that erupted in April 2023. The RSF has displaced many villagers around El Fasher as part of what appears to be a strategy to isolate the city and cut off supplies.
