Two children killed, eight injured in RSF shelling of El Obeid
March 12, 2025 (EL OBEID) – At least two children were killed and eight others injured on Wednesday in artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, according to a medical group.
The city has been under intense attack from RSF artillery for seven consecutive days, resulting in significant civilian casualties and the destruction of homes.
The attack on the North Kordofan capital comes after the Sudanese army managed last February to break a nearly two-year siege imposed on El Obeid by the RSF.
A statement issued by the Sudan Doctors Network, received by Sudan Tribune, said that “two girls were killed and eight others were seriously injured, some with amputated legs and hands, due to the deliberate RSF rocket fire this evening on the neighbourhoods of Taiba and Karima in El Obeid.”
The statement strongly condemned the deliberate rocket fire for the seventh day in a row, which it said targeted densely populated neighbourhoods to spread terror, displacing residents and causing the most significant possible losses among them, in apparent defiance of all international humanitarian laws that prohibit targeting civilians.
The network warned against the RSF’s persistence and its exploitation of the international community’s disregard for its violations against unarmed civilians in all states. It called on the international community to play its role in imposing further restrictions on the forces and their supporters to stop the bloodshed of unarmed civilians.
