April 11, 2025 (NAIROBI) – Abdalla Hamdok, head of Sudan’s civilian coalition “Samoud”, has urged European Union leaders to prioritise ending the war in his country, the alliance said on Friday, days before a bloc meeting on the crisis.

Hamdok, a former prime minister, sent the appeal in letters to European Union (EU) leaders on Thursday ahead of an EU meeting scheduled for April 15, the alliance statement added.

Alliance spokesman Jaafar Hassan said Hamdok sent 27 letters to EU leaders on Thursday urging them to give “the necessary importance” to achieving peace and stopping the war.

Hassan said a copy of the alliance’s “Sudan Peace Call” vision, outlining a three-track approach, was attached to the letters.

The first track calls for a return to military negotiations based on the Jeddah Declaration, while the second humanitarian track focuses on protecting civilians and opening safe aid corridors, Hassan added.

The third political track involves Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue and a round table discussion, he said.

Separately, the European Union announced on Thursday it was providing over 282.5 million euros ($305 million) in aid for Sudan and neighbouring countries hosting refugees.

The EU statement said 160 million euros ($173 million) was allocated to support people affected by the conflict inside Sudan, focusing on areas facing famine, acute food insecurity and large displaced populations.
