Sudan’s Burhan meets Turkey’s Erdogan, other leaders at Antalya Forum
April 12, 2025 (ANTALYA, Turkey) – Sudanese leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan held bilateral talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other heads of state in Antalya on Saturday.
The meetings occurred on the sidelines of Burhan’s participation in the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, an event organised by the Turkish Foreign Ministry to address global challenges and discuss regional and international issues.
A statement from Sudan’s ruling Sovereign Council said the meeting between Burhan and Erdogan reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries, ways to support and enhance them, and areas for joint cooperation.
The statement noted that the discussions covered the developing situation in Sudan, efforts towards achieving peace and reconstruction, and key regional and international matters of mutual interest.
Burhan expressed appreciation for Turkey’s support for Sudan in regional and international forums, its assistance, and its respect for Sudan’s sovereign and territorial integrity, according to the statement.
President Erdogan welcomed Burhan’s visit, praised the strong ties between Khartoum and Ankara, and affirmed his commitment to advancing relations for mutual benefit. Erdogan reiterated Turkey’s keenness to continue supporting Sudan, including efforts to achieve security, stability, and peace, adding that his country stands with Sudan’s government to overcome current challenges.
Turkey is expected to be involved in Sudan’s reconstruction efforts, as the conflict ongoing since April 15, 2023, has severely damaged the country’s infrastructure, essential services like water and electricity, and livelihoods.
Burhan also held separate meetings with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio, and Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, the head of Libya’s Tripoli-based Government of National Unity.
During these bilateral meetings, discussions focused on strengthening relations to serve common interests and addressed regional and international issues.
