Sudan’s RSF kills at least 74 in West Kordofan village attack, doctors say
April 24, 2025 (AL-UDAIYA) – At least 74 people were killed and some 178 wounded when Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked a village in West Kordofan state on Thursday, a doctors’ group said.
The attack signals escalating violence in the Kordofan region, where the Sudanese army recently ended a months-long siege of El-Obeid, the North Kordofan state capital. The army intends to use El-Obeid as a base for operations against the RSF in West Kordofan and the neighbouring Darfur region, most of which the paramilitary group controls.
A statement from the Sudan Doctors Network, seen by Sudan Tribune, accused an RSF force of committing a “heinous massacre” against residents of Al-Zafa village in the Al-Udaiya locality.
“The force overran the village, liquidating 74 people, including 12 children and 9 women, while 178 others were injured,” the statement said.
The Network strongly condemned the killings in West Kordofan villages, stating the RSF’s actions disregarded “the most basic human rights that criminalise the killing of unarmed civilians, looting their property, and burning their homes.”
The doctors’ group deplored what it called international silence over documented RSF war crimes against civilians in Kordofan and Darfur. It urged the United Nations and international bodies to increase pressure on the RSF to halt the violations.
The RSF has controlled large parts of West Kordofan, including its capital Al-Fulah, since the early months of the conflict that erupted between the paramilitary force and the regular army. The army retains control of its command in Babanusa and the town of Al-Nahud in the same state.
