Three medics killed in Sudan’s West Kordofan after RSF takeover – doctors’ union
May 4, 2025 (EL-NUHUD) – At least three medical workers were killed by paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) after the group seized control of El-Nuhud, West Kordofan state’s largest city, days earlier, a doctors’ union said on Sunday.
The RSF attacked El-Nuhud, a key crossroads between the Kordofan and Darfur regions, on May 1 and took control on May 2 after the Sudanese army withdrew from its 18th Brigade headquarters to al-Khuy, a town the RSF also captured, the Sudan Doctors Syndicate said.
In a statement, the Syndicate confirmed the deaths of Mohamed al-Amin, the medical director of El-Nuhud hospital, Mohamed al-Nair, a doctor, and Ibrahim Babiker, the hospital’s head nurse. Another doctor was seriously wounded, the statement said.
The Syndicate statement also pointed to ongoing violations against civilians in El-Nuhud since the RSF attack. It added that the army’s withdrawal had left a security vacuum impacting residents.
