RSF attacks in Omdurman leave 8 civilians dead, including children in drone strike
May 8, 2025 (KHARTOUM) – At least eight civilians, including three children, were killed in west Omdurman on Thursday in attacks attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), involving raids on homes and a drone strike, according to local sources and medical officials.
Five civilians died when RSF fighters reportedly opened fire during raids on residences. Separately, a drone strike, also blamed on the RSF, hit a home, killing three children.
These deadly incidents in far west Omdurman occurred as the Sudanese army reported significant advances against RSF’s last strongholds near the strategic Omdurman-Bara highway, a key route to Kordofan.
An Umbada Emergency Response Room member told Sudan Tribune that “at least five civilians were killed following attacks by the RSF on Dar es Salam’s Block 26.”
The emergency worker added that the RSF is committing “widespread violations” against trapped civilians in Dar es Salam’s Blocks 22, 26, 27, 28, and 30, and in the Al-Muwailih area of far west Omdurman.
“These RSF-held areas face a ‘highly complex humanitarian crisis,’ with residents struggling to find clean water and food, alongside enduring home invasions by RSF fighters,” the source said.
Separately, the Sudan Doctors Network (SDN) reported in a statement that an RSF drone strike on a house in western Omdurman’s Block 16 killed at least three children and injured four others.
The SDN statement condemned the “continued targeting of populated areas” by the RSF in Omdurman and other states, leading to unarmed civilian deaths, especially women and children, calling it a “violation of all laws of war and international statutes.”
The doctors’ group urged the international community to pressure the RSF and its leadership to halt such violations, open safe aid corridors to besieged areas in Kordofan and Darfur, and stop deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure.
In March, the Sudanese army regained control over most of Khartoum State, pushing out RSF forces, which then regrouped in Omdurman’s Salha area and surrounding southern rural villages.
