June 13, 2025 (PORT SUDAN) – Sudan on Friday condemned what it called an “unjust aggression” launched by Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In a statement, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserted that the Israeli attack “constitutes a serious threat to international peace and security.”

The ministry stated that the Republic of Sudan calls on the United Nations and the UN Security Council to take immediate measures to halt these attacks.

According to press reports, the Sudanese army has long-standing ties with Iran involving arms and drone deals, which have reportedly increased during the war between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that began in mid-April 2023.

In October 2023, Sudan’s foreign ministry announced the resumption of diplomatic relations with Iran. At the time, both parties agreed to expand cooperation in various fields to serve the interests of both countries.

Sudan had closed Iranian cultural centres in 2014 and severed diplomatic ties with Iran in January 2016 in solidarity with Saudi Arabia after the Saudi embassy in Tehran was stormed. Sudan’s stance toward Tehran has softened following the normalization of Saudi-Iranian relations.

Earlier on Friday, Iran announced that dozens were killed, including a group of top military commanders and nuclear experts, in wide-scale strikes carried out by Israeli aircraft on various regions.

Iran’s Fars News Agency reported that the Israeli attacks resulted in 78 deaths and 329 injuries in the residential areas of Tehran province alone. The head of the crisis management department in the western Iranian city of Tabriz said eight people were killed in an Israeli attack on the city.

Iranian media and witnesses reported explosions at various locations, including the main Natanz uranium enrichment facility.
