June 25, 2025 (DILLING) – A drone strike blamed on the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed at least four people in the city of Dilling in Sudan’s South Kordofan state on Wednesday, local sources said.

The attack targeted civilian and military positions in the city, which has been at the centre of recent fighting. The sources said a training facility for the army’s 54th Infantry Brigade was among the sites hit, resulting in four civilian deaths and an unconfirmed number of military casualties.

Last week, heavy clashes erupted between the Sudanese army and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) near Dilling as the rebel group seeks to expand its control in the region.

The Sudanese army released a statement on Wednesday saying it had destroyed a large RSF force west of Dilling and seized weapons and drones. The army’s official Facebook page posted a video showing soldiers displaying captured equipment, including drones, to a crowd of civilians.

Military sources said the RSF and the SPLM-N faction led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu are planning a joint offensive to capture Dilling, the second-largest city in South Kordofan.

The conflict has intensified a severe humanitarian crisis in Dilling, which has been under a tight siege for months. The blockade by the warring parties, the army, the RSF, and the SPLM-N , has led to critical shortages of food and medicine, with reports of starvation emerging from the city.

Earlier this week, SPLM-N fighters captured the strategic al-Dashoul station, cutting the main road between Dilling and the state capital, Kadugli, after intense fighting with the army, according to reports from the area. Artillery shells fired during the clashes reportedly struck residential areas in Dilling, causing injuries and property damage.
