Sudan armed group demands role in RSF-backed parallel government

July 22, 2025 (NYALA, South Darfur)  July 22 – A Sudanese armed group allied with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Tuesday demanded a role in a parallel government being formed by the RSF and its partners, stating its right to be included in all new institutions.

The statement came from the Third Front “Tamazuj,” which in April joined the “Tasis” alliance, a coalition working to establish an administration in RSF-controlled territory.

In a statement, Tamazuj’s political secretary, Mokhtar Fadel, said the group’s leadership was demanding inclusion “in all institutions of the upcoming government and the structures of the Tasis alliance,” starting with its leadership council.

Fadel argued that Tamazuj’s membership in the Tasis alliance, formalized by its signing of the coalition’s charter, grants it the legitimacy to participate in all committees involved in the government’s formation.

In early July, the Tasis alliance named RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as “Hemedti,” to head its leadership body. Other key appointments were made, but the full 31-member council has not been announced, a structure in which Tamazuj is now demanding representation.

The statement also announced Tamazuj’s withdrawal from another coalition, the United Civil Forces Alliance “Qimam.” Fadel described joining Qimam as a “political mistake” that had limited the group’s role and status.

Tamazuj was a signatory to the 2020 Juba Peace Agreement with Sudan’s former transitional government. However, since the conflict between the RSF and the Sudanese army began in April 2023, the group has been fighting alongside the RSF.
